Founder’s Story – Dhanasekara Perumal

From a young age, in the heart of Auroville at Tamil Nadu, Dhanasekara Perumal found joy in the world of patterns, colors, and handmade craft. What began as simple curiosity soon blossomed into a passion for creating educational toys, quilts, and unique products made from recycled cotton and natural materials like river grass. Each creation carried not just functionality but also a story – a story of childhood wonder, sustainability, and cultural roots.

With this vision, Dhanasekara founded Danasto (Devagison Company), not merely as a store, but as a movement rooted in sustainability and social change. He began setting up craft units in villages across Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, and Bangalore, providing employment and dignity to economically deprived women. Every stitch, weave, and product became more than a piece of craft – it became a step toward independence for a family.

Today, Danasto continues to grow, carrying forward Dhanasekara’s belief that true progress lies in blending art, sustainability, and empowerment.
